PHARMA :: Gallery Opening
I was very honored to be invited to last night’s opening of the exhibit Pharma at Cooper Union. This unique show of graphic design for pharmaceuticals was presented at the study center of a personal favorite designer of mine, Herb Lubalin. If you’re not familiar, just Google his name, and you will most likely recognize many of his images, logos, and fonts.
This exhibit was not only a display of medicinal ephemera, but a history of the drug industry as it enticed the consumer from the early 20th Century to present day. I snickered a bit when I saw actual ads for snake oil and Bayer’s patented Heroin (yes, that kind of heroin). However, the products may have changed, but I realized that the pharmaceutical industry’s sales techniques have pretty much stayed the same. Drop by and see for yourself.
